More info than you expected, huh? Here's the
legend, which explains everything:
- Title -- The title (duh). If this is a link, then click/select the link to retrieve the file.
- Graphics -- Graphics modes guaranteed to be supported; for example, if a game is listed as supporting cga and ega, then you'll get pictures with up to 4 colors in CGA, and up to 16 colors in EGA.
- c = CGA
- C = CGA composite/TV output (160x200x16 colors on standard CGA card); many Tandy computers have this
- e = EGA
- h = HGA (Hercules monochrome graphics (720x348x2 for those who don't remember)
- t = TGA (Tandy/PCjr graphics; usually means 160x200x16 or 320x200x16)
- v = VGA (Also includes MCGA games, and games that use a custom VGA palette in 16-color mode)
- X = undefinable, rare, or tweaked mode; for example, the 160x100x16 graphics in Round 42, or the AT&T PC 6300 640x400 mode support in The Colony
- Sound
- p = Internal PC speaker (included with all PCs--duh ;-)
- P = Enhanced Internal PC speaker (multi-channel music or digitized sound; no additional hardware needed)
- a = Adlib (and Sound Blaster) FM music/sound
- A = Quality Adlib music; a real treat if you have an Adlib or Sound Blaster
- s = Sound Blaster digitzed sound support
- t = Tandy/PCjr internal 3-voice sound chip
- X = Other misc. sound support, like the Roland MT-32, gmidi, generic mpu401, Covox Speech thing, CMS Game Blaster, etc., etc...
- Cracked? -- Is the game cracked/deprotected/copyable?
- y = Yes (or was never copy-protected in the first place)
- n = No; you'll have to try to crack it yourself or find a crack/patch somewhere
- ? = Either 1. I can't remember, or 2. It's an odd disk format that diskcopy can't duplicate, but teledisk might be able to, or 3. It's protected, but works anyway (?) or some other oddity. Use at own risk.
- Boots? -- Is the game self-booting and/or on a bootable disk? If so, you'll need to make sure you can boot off the 5.25" drive. (And remember, dir a: on a bootable disk is supposed to give you an error. ;-)
- Runs on: -- This is a speed rating; denotes the CPU(s) the game was designed to run on. If there's a + in the list (for example, "286+"), then that means the game will run fine on that CPU and higher. If it was designed for an 8086 and you have a Pentium, make sure you slow down your computer somehow... slowdown utilities are in my Utilities List.
- 8086 = a 4.77 MHz 8088 (original IBM PC) or 7.16 MHz 8086 or NEC V20
- 286 = 80286 or NEC V30
- 386, 486, 586, etc.
- all = runs fine on all machines (rare for really old action/arcade games, but some do exist)
- Comments -- A description of the game, or any additional comments that I feel are relevant
- Extras -- Additional things related to the game--the original contents of the box, manual, screenshots, etc., etc
- One or more screenshots from the game
- A video clip of the game in action
- An audio clip of the game in action
- A music soundtrack from the game
- Pictures of the front and back of the box
- Pictures of the diskette (some of the labels are cool ;-)
- The manual of the game, usually in ASCII or PDF format (you're welcome!) or codes needed to play the game
- Stuff that was included in the box but doesn't fit into one of the above categories; or something else that's related that should be here
- Hints, solves, walkthroughs, trainers, etc. for the game
- Patches that fix bugs or enhance gameplay
