Before you continue any further and/or accuse me of anything,
please read the disclaimer for this
archive.
Due to other obligations, I will be unable to accept new
upload requests until November. In the meantime, try checking
out the Flopper Project for some abandonware
not possible anywhere else.
The FAQ
Trixter's Abandonware Archive has its own FAQ--please read it before
emailing me with a question. I have spent a lot of time on this
FAQ: 95% of all questions you will ask me are answered here. I will
immediately delete any email that asks me a question already covered in
the FAQ. You have been warned.
Obtaining Files
If you can retrieve the title by selecting/clicking its name, it's here.
If you can't, then it isn't here, and you'll have to email
me requesting that a particular title be uploaded. Uploading titles
to this server usually takes me a week or two.
- Action games (all genres)
- Arcade games (coin-op converstions, arcade-style games, etc.)
- Adventure games (includes RPGs and D&D-type games)
- Puzzle games (includes tetris/variants)
- Strategy games (includes wargames, "god" games, etc.)
- Racing games
- Space shoot-em-up games (many/most of these are also in Action Games)
- Sports games
- Simulations (flight simulators, war games, etc.)
- Application software (word processors, graphics, music, etc.)
- Utility software (slowdown utils, disk-to-file utils, compression/decompression, DOS, etc.)
- Miscellaneous thingies (documentation, information, game-ish stuff, old utils, trivia, etc.)
- Educational (educational games, software for young children, etc.)
And, of course:
This archive is also accessible via FTP, for those who have slow
connections and need resumable transfer capabilities. However, I urge
you to browse through the categories right here with your web browser,
instead of just rooting around the FTP site, since the pages here have
much more information about the games themselves,
screenshots, and other goodies that you won't find in the ftp archive.
AbandonSearch
You can search my entire site (and the entire Abandonware Ring!) for
something you can't seem to find. Just enter what you're looking for in
the space provided below:
Other cool stuff
If you like this site, you'll love the following:
- 10/6/1997: Rewrote the FAQ, Disclaimer, and main page.
- 10/3/1997: Added an Educational section. I plan to make this list a useful resource for fixing up the old XT for a 3-6 year old.
- 10/2/1997: Updated the FAQ to be more organized, and clarified some stuff, and added info about .PDF files.
- 9/29/1997: Manuals, screenshots, original box contents, sound, music, video, hints, game patches... I'm adding all of this and more to selected titles in the archive. For example, check out Silpheed.
- 9/28/1997: I'm working on reworking the site, bit by bit. If things appear odd, let me know.
- 9/27/1997: Flopper Evaluation release 0.1 is done! You can check it all out at The Flopper Project home page.
- 9/25/1997: A member of Dead Pirate's Society offered his entire 160+ file collection to the archive. Yeah! Another hot beef injection!
- 9/02/1997: Someone on the Ring had modified their entire site to be nothing more than links to my existing files! I modified my server to not serve requests launched from his page (yes, you can do that). Don't be a lamer! I have no problem with you linking to my site, but please link to my SITE (http://boxotrix.it-ias.depaul.edu/abandonware/) and not my FILES! Give credit where credit is due!
- 8/27/1997: Following the FTP trend, you can now use FTP to upload contributions to me; just ftp to boxotrix.it-ias.depaul.edu and upload to the /incoming directory.
- 8/25/1997: ! My archive is now available via FTP (boxotrix.it-ias.depaul.edu/pub/abandonware), so you can get quicker transfers and can resume downloads that have died due to slow connections. I've also modified my site to do all transfers as FTP transfers. This should completely solve the goofy binary-to-ASCII transfers that were happening on brain-dead web browsers.
- 8/24/1997: Basement is starting to dry out; will start servicing requests next week. I've added 20 new things today, much in the Utils, Misc, and Apps sections (most notably the Apps section, which now has everything you need to make screen snapshots of your favorite games).
- 8/16/1997: My basement got flooded. Please don't expect any more updates to this archive until September (or until everything dries out).
- 8/14/1997: I rewrote the "I can't get this game to work!" section of the FAQ; it's now much larger, and should help you get most (if not all) old games running.
- 8/12/1997: I added a size column to all the lists, so you can now see how large something is before you download it.
- 8/10/1997: The "hot beef injection" from 8088state only turned out to be about 10 titles out of 80, since the rest I either already had, or the other abandonware sites already had.
- 7/29/1997: I added a navigation bar to the top of every list screen.
- 7/28/1997: The AbandonSearch is fully operational. If you'd like to include it on your own abandonware page, feel free to suck out the form code.
- 7/21/1997: This site just got a hot beef injection from the now inactive 8088state group--over 50 meg! Thanks, WaxMaster! Expect to see some of those titles show up here as abandonware.
