How It
Works
The GUIDE Remote™ is a
state-of-the-art universal remote control with a free TV program
guide. Your GUIDE Remote has
many other features that you can customize to your particular TV viewing
needs. You can go to our Web
site to set up most of the options, and others can be set up directly on
the GUIDE Remote itself. To
keep your GUIDE Remote up-to-date with the latest information from
our Web
site,
you need to connect your GUIDE Remote handset to your PC at least once a
week using a procedure we call RemoteLinker™ II.
RemoteLinker™
II runs on your PC and transfers data back and forth between your GUIDE
Remote™ and our Web
site . All you need
is a PC with Internet access, a GUIDE Remote connected with the provided
cable to an open USB port, and the RemoteLinker II program running on the
PC.
If you are a first time user, please read
on!
You will need at least:
· A PC running Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000
or Windows XP.
· An Internet Explorer 5.0+, Netscape 4.0+ or AOL 5.0+ Web
Browser. (NOTE: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 must
be installed on your computer even if it is not your default browser,
because RemoteLinker II uses resources
provided only with Internet Explorer.)
· One available USB Port.
· A CD ROM drive.
· At least 5 MB free hard disk
space.
· At least 8 MB RAM.
· An active connection to the
Internet.
You can install the RemoteLinker™ II program on your
PC from the CD that came with your GUIDE Remote™.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus software running on your PC.
Put the CD ROM in your CD ROM drive. The installation program should begin automatically. Proceed to step 4.
If the installation does not begin after a few seconds, then click Run on the Start menu and browse for setup.exe on the CD ROM.
Click OK to run setup.exe and follow the instructions on your screen.
After successful installation and starting the program, a RemoteLinker icon will appear in the system tray. The system tray is usually in the lower right corner of your desktop, where the clock is normally displayed.
RemoteLinker™ II works closely with your web browser, so please
verify that a default browser has been selected for your system and that you are
connected to the Internet. Next,
please connect your GUIDE Remote™ handset and activate
RemoteLinker II , as follows:
1. Please make sure you have established an active internet connection.
2. Start the RemoteLinker II program, if not already started. You should see the RemoteLinker II icon in the system tray.
3. Plug the provided RemoteLinker II cable into an open
USB port on your PC.
4. Plug the other end of the RemoteLinker II cable into
the top end of your GUIDE Remote.
5. RemoteLinker II will detect the GUIDE Remote
and begin the registration
sequence.
At this point the RemoteLinker™ II program will activate and check to see if it can communicate with the GUIDE Remote™. Please wait a few seconds for this process to complete. Should the process fail, an error box will pop up with further instructions. When successful, the following dialog box will appear:
6. Click the Register button to setup your account on the Web.
Your browser will open and take you to the Registration page on our Web site . Here you can register your remote, setup a personal account and select your user preferences.
